Maya Angelou once wrote ¨Ëach person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw us. We need hours of aimless wandering or spates of time sitting on park benches, observing the mysterious world of ants and the canopy of treetops...... A day away acts as a spring tonic. It can dispel rancor, transform indecision, and renew the spirit.¨
It`s quite a blessing to have a day away for six months. How often can one say `This is exactly where I want to be?`
I feel like I`m in the wild, only seeing one town a day, on a dirt road, with few cars pàssing. Every time I run into bikers, which is fairly frequently, they say Wait til you get to the south. I`m in the South! I traveled 4 months to get here! WHAT do you Mean ... WAIT?? But they all just started their trip, heading north. Luckily every day becomes more stunning for me. And I`m already in Awe.
This water is the real color. I still can´t get over it.
Every day, every corner, is like an amazing view that takes my breath away. So many moments, I think to myself there is nowhere else I want to be. Many cyclists have destinations every day, `have to get to this town`, `have to get to this campground,``there`s no shelter in between.`Many have been shocked to find out I don`t carry one of those odometers that calculate how many miles I`ve gone in a day. I tell them I don`t really care how far I`ve gone. The best part of my decision, my new found ability to just stop, (which took a while to learn), is I`ve found the best gems of campsites.
And only a handful of people know they exist, those who walk or are on their bikes with the right pair of eyes. It may mean stopping at 2pm, and sitting by a lake for the remainder of the day, and usually I do just that. They aren`t easy to get to, my paradise.
Traveling alone, I have to find ways to entertain myself. When I put on my yellow jacket, I feel like Uma Thurman from Kill Bill. When cars pass and barely give me room to breath, my first thought is `Hey A**hole, I can squash you with my big toe!` And then I sing to myself out loud in the rain.
JURASSIC PARK 5!!
Oh I think I am so funny.
The highlight of my day, I found some Nutella in a small town. NUTELLLLLLLAAAAAAA. But it`s in a glass jar. It`s not practical to carry glass while biking, it`s heavy. So I must consume all of it today to save weight. Perhaps buy another in the next town. I feel like I`ve made the wise decision.
